History: Rupert’s first public library was established as an outpost library in October of 1977. In 1987, the library expanded by adding another outpost building from Ronceverte. 26 years later, the heirs of the Shafer Hardware building in Rupert deeded the building to the Town of Rupert, stipulating it be used as the public library for Rupert. In October 2013, the new Rupert Public Library opened its doors, and now serves 4,200 residents in Greenbrier County.
